In Conversation With Marie Winckler - Maison Flâneur

Have you ever visited a restaurant, hotel or spa and fallen in love with the decor? Founded by Dionas Sotiriou and now run with Gabriel Moukhbat and Marie Winckler, Maison Flâneur is the destination for travelers looking to bring that hospitality experience home with them.

We're delighted to have launched a selection of our products on this digital store to give travelers that at-home spa experience. In celebration, we chat with Marie Winckler, a passionate storyteller, who is a firm believer that places, objects and products are best when they have a story to tell.

Why did you get involved with Maison Flâneur?

I went to school in Belgium with Dionas, the founder of Maison Flâneur, so we've known each other since we were little. When he told me about the project, I fell in love with the idea instantly. I couldn't believe it didn't exist yet. I have always taken pictures of the back of plates in restaurants, and collected ashtrays from hotels I love because they bring back happy memories. Hotels and restaurants are more than locations; they are places that inspire you and that you trust.

Can you tell us the story behind the name?

I love a quote from Baudelaire: "Being a Flâneur is to be away from home and yet to feel oneself everywhere at home." This is what Maison Flâneur is all about - we travel the world but always have our own home in mind.

Who is your customer?

Every travel addict and decoration enthusiast.

What's your favorite object at home sourced from Maison Flâneur?

My turtle plates from Luke Edward Hall that we found at the Pigalle Hotel.

What's your favorite hotel?

It's such a hard question to answer. Let's say that if I could quarantine anywhere right now, I would say the Schloss Fuschl in Salzburg. They do the most amazing Wiener Schnitzel, and nothing beats the views of the Austrian mountains falling into the green crystal clear waters of the Fuschl lake.

What's your favorite spa?

An at-home facial by Desi Valentine.

What is the one beauty product you cannot live without?

Like a good French girl, I love my pharmacy products. I never go anywhere without my lait-creme concentre moisturiser and tube of Homeoplasmine. As for Irene Forte Skincare, I don't remember the last night I slept without my Hibiscus Night Cream.

What's the best at-home spa tip you've ever been given?

"Try using this Jade Roller."

Can you tell us about any new projects you have in store for Maison Flâneur?

We are about to announce something very exciting at the end of this month. I promise it's not to create a false sense of suspense. It's actually going to be very exciting.
