At Irene Forte Skincare, we recognise that our company’s existence is part of a much wider system of people, nature and organisations, and we are committed to ensuring that our processes and products are as sustainable and ethical as possible at every stage of the cycle.
We strongly believe in circular economy principles and are doing everything possible to create fully circular products. This means designing out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems.
We believe that this is the only way to a sustainable future.
ECO-FRIENDLY PACKAGING
We use recycled materials for our packaging. Our boxes and their liners are made out 100% recycled fibres, and our glass bottles are made out of up to 31% post-industrial recycled material. All of our 30ML and 50ML products are refillable, with a biobased plastic refill component.
The refill component can be recycled once used through our recycling programme in partnership with First Mile (a QR Code on the box explains next steps). First Mile recycles the refill shredding it into flakes, which are then converted into plastic pellets to make new plastic products for things such as car parts and pipes, giving it a second life. For the non-refillable products, the lids and pumps can also be recycled via the First Mile programme. Discover more about our recycling scheme here.
CLEAN INGREDIENTS
We use clean ingredients so as not to pollute the soil or the water. We only use what is necessary, and produce in small batches, thereby minimising waste.
We use plant-based sources, and are certified vegan by VegetalOk. We source our primary ingredients from our Organic Farm in Sicily. Where ingredients cannot come from the farm, they come from neighbouring areas in Sicily or from reputable farmers in the Trentino region, where our lab is based.
UPCYCLED INGREDIENTS
We integrate zero-waste upcycled ingredients into our products, made from nutrient-rich plant-based leftovers.
For example, we utilise upcycled Olive Seed Oil from a supplier in Trento, Italy, in our Olive Eye Cream. This supplier's mission is to create an eco-sustainable circular economy. Every single part of the olive has powerful benefits, and thus rather than wasting any part, our supplier uses all of it. We take oil made from the usually discarded olive pit, which has a lot to offer the skin. It contains all the essential amino acids and a particular polyphenol, Nuzhenide; these compounds have antioxidant properties, protecting the skin with a regenerating, anti-inflammatory and moisturising effect.
We also use Upcycled Red Grape Skin in our Lemon Toner, Apricot Penta-Acid Polish, and Lavender Tetra-Acid Mask. This comes from red grapes in Emiglia Romagna, Italy. Grape skins protect grapes from UV overexposure, pathogen attacks, environmental pollution and adverse weather conditions. The thousands of molecules that grapes are able to synthesise and accumulate in its fruit skin are the secret of its defenses in skincare. They inhibit degradation of collagen and other skin proteins, which cause decreased skin tone and elasticity, as well as fine lines and wrinkles.
